OPAL Play

At Kiwi we began our OPAL (Outside Play and Learning)  journey in 2025. The main difference is that children now have access to all of our school grounds, throughout the entire year. Children also have the choice to play in mixed ability groups from Reception to Year 6.

As part of our updated uniform policy, children need to wear waterproofs or children are to have a spare pair of clothes in school and can they can access our "welly bank" for suitable footwear.

Please look at our Social Media pages and newsletters  for regular updates.

Children at Kiwi very much enjoy our Outdoor Play Provision and it forms part of our enrichment curriculum.

Equipment and Zones could include (but are not limited to):

  • Large Sandpit
  • Scooters, bikes, trolleys, space hoppers and other means of transport/travel
  • Tyres and planks
  • Mud Cafe and kitchen
  • Digging pit
  • Small world (e.g. dinosaurs, cars, fantasy world)
  • Wildflower Meadow
  • Big chalk boards and bubbles
  • Crates, containers and cardboard boxes (e.g. for den building or whatever the children choose to do)
  • Performing (e.g. music, drama, dressing up)
  • Colouring and Reading

Children are asked to be responsible for the equipment and tidy it away at the end of the session.
